NAIL ART TAMPA

As the name suggests, this nail shape flares upward and out, and is also known as the duck bill shape. Totty says the best way to enjoy a flared nail is to just have fun with it. "They can't be plain; flashy colors, fun prints and bling are the way to go," she says. "You have to really like attention to be able to rock these beauties."

However, if you work with your hands a lot, this might not be the nail shape for you. "If you work at a bar or you are a hairstylist, have a small child who needs diaper changes, or operate a cleaning business it just won't work," Totty says. "They definitely get in the way compared to more traditional shapes."

Edge nails form a point, but the point is not as long as a stiletto shape or as aggressive as an arrowhead. However, it offers a slightly sharper angled tip than a mountain peak. "They’re shaped with the sides extending straight before the top edges are filed to look like an edge," Rojas explains. When created with acrylics, the edge nail also forms into a ridge through the center of a nail, mimicking an edge.

If you're thinking of giving this shape a try, Totty notes that it's important to be comfortable with the sharpness of the shape. "Those edge nails are very sharp and may get in the way," she says. "It’s also important to get them filled in more often and reshaped to avoid wear and tear."

With that being said, Lippmann recommends giving this one a try if you want something different and exciting. "Anyone that wants to try a new nail shape should try this," she says. "A new nail shape is just as fun as trying out a new nail color."

Arrowhead nails are a less severe version of a stiletto nail with a shorter point featuring more dramatic angles to create the tip. "These are perfect for those that don’t have or like the super long nails," Rojas says. In fact, this shape is great for someone who wants to test drive long, pointy nails before fully committing to the stiletto shape.

The type of polish you use has a big impact on your manicure.

Whether you’re headed to the salon or giving yourself an at-home manicure, you may have noticed that there is no shortage of options when it comes to nail polish. Aside from the traditional formula you’ve been using since you were a child, there are new formulas like gel, builder gel and dip powder that each have their own unique benefits.

Since understanding the difference between all the options can be a little difficult (don’t even get us started on picking a color) we’ve outlined the difference between eight of the most common types of nail polish and other manicure services or enhancements you may see at the salon (and on social media). Consider this your guide to all things nail polish.

Let’s start with the basics: traditional nail polish is the kind that has to dry — it’s what many of us think of when we think of nail polish. It’s offered in a variety of finishes from shiny to matte to shimmery and this type of nail polish doesn’t require other equipment like UV or LED lights.

It’s not the most long-lasting option and you can expect to make it through a week (sometimes less) before becoming victim to a chipped mani. However it’s quick to apply, it doesn’t require expert skills to use and it’s the best option if you can’t commit to the same color for too long.

Gel nail polish is a super popular polish at the salon and in recent years, at home, too. Your nail technician (or you if you’ve mastered an at-home gel manicure) will paint the gel polish onto your nail and will use an LED light to cure it for 30 to 60 seconds so it can harden and dry. The end result is a glossy manicure that you can expect to last for around two weeks.

Gel can be used on your natural nails or on top of lengthening nail services like acrylics, press on nails and gel extensions. Gel nail polish, like traditional nail polish, is available in tons of different finishes like cream, matte, glitter, holographic and cat-eye.

Acrylic doesn’t come in a bottle like traditional or gel nail polish, instead it’s a powder that’s mixed with a monomer to create a gummy liquid that hardens. It can be used to strengthen your natural nails or on top of tips to add length to your nails. It’s applied with a brush and as the acrylic hardens, it can be filed to your desired shape. Acrylic nails last around two to three weeks and can be filled once or twice before an entirely new set is required.

If you’re wondering what type of nail polish is best for your nails, allow us to point you in the direction of breathable polish. In short, breathable nail polish allows oxygen and water to pass through your polish and to your nails, rather than creating a barrier over your nails like acrylic and gel polish does. This makes breathable polish less prone to chipping because chipping occurs when moisture and oils disrupt the barrier between your nail polish and your nail.

Breathable polish lets the oils and moisture in, which not only leads to a long-wearing manicure but healthier, hydrated nails. Expect your breathable nail polish to last for about a week to 10 days. If you can’t go a few days without your traditional polish chipping, this is a good option to try.

Think of polygel as a hybrid between acrylic and gel nail polish. This nail treatment comes in a tube, has a gel-like consistency and is applied on top of your bare nails or nail extensions with a brush. It can be used to sculpt, shape, fill in and lengthen your nails and it’s cured with an LED or UV light.

Many people love polygel because it’s ultra-durable but still feels like natural nails. In comparison to acrylic, it contains fewer chemicals, it’s odor-free and it’s one of the longest wearing polish options, lasting up to three weeks.

Dip powder is another type of nail enhancement service known for its long-lasting formula. It’s durable and can last around three weeks to a month which is why so many people love it. Whether you head to the salon for your dip manicure or do it yourself at home, the process is simple and quick.

A base coat is applied to your nails and then the powder is applied on top. This process is repeated, with the excess powder being brushed off so your manicure isn’t chunky, until you’re left with an opaque layer of polish. To finish your dip manicure, a layer of clear powder and a sealant is applied to create a shiny overlay, similar to a top coat. The nice thing about dip powder is that it doesn’t require an LED light and it dries in minutes.

If you swear by a gel manicure, you may have heard of builder gel or BIAB — builder gel in a bottle. The names can be used interchangeably and are another type of gel polish with a stronger, less pliable finish than normal gel polish, that can be used as an overlay treatment or as a medium to lengthen your nail shape.

Builder gel tends to come in a bottle like normal gel polish, it’s also cured with an LED light and can be soaked off with acetone. Builder gel is also used with gel extensions to bond the nail tips to your natural nails.

Hard gel nail polish is stronger and more rigid on the nails than gel nail polish but it’s not as strong as builder gel. It comes in a bottle and is cured with an LED light but it can’t be soaked off with acetone like gel nail polish or builder gel. Hard gel is more resilient to chemicals so while the only way to remove it is by filing it off, the good thing is that it can also be filled so you won't need a new set every time you get your nails done. Hard gel is typically used to strengthen your natural nails or as a way to extend the shape of your natural nails with a foil sculpting tool.

OK, we can all agree that a spankin’ new mani can put us in a good mood. But while we love a classic mani or a French tip moment, did you know that there are so many other types of manicures out there? Look, we get it—it’s already tough deciding what nail polish, nail art or shape to rock, so the last thing you want to be is overwhelmed by more choices. Luckily, we made you a manicure guide that will surely help you find the right style for you.

How to Choose the Best Manicure Style

When it comes to choosing which types of nails to get, you’ll want to factor in a couple of things. Ask yourself, what does my budget look like? Can my lifestyle fit this type of manicure? What is the occasion? Plus, figuring out how much time you’re willing to spend getting the manicure done and how often you should come in for touch ups. From basic to polygel, here’s the real deal on every type of nail option out there.

You know the one. It’s among the most popular and affordable options on the list. Paint it on yourself or hit up your manicure spot for a pristine application (complete with hand massage, might we add). The standard manicure also comes with a trim, shape and buffing process—with cuticle time too. Just make sure you spend ample time under the nail dryer or you'll risk those dreaded dings on the way out.

Cost: $10 to $30 per application (but cheaper if you consider no nail polish or do it at home).

  4. Daily Schedule for Standing Desk Users: How to Alternate for Best Results
Switching between sitting and standing is more than a trend — it’s a practical strategy to reduce discomfort, boost alertness and protect long-term health. But simply standing all day isn’t the answer; the real gain comes from a smart rhythm of posture changes, ergonomic setup, and short movement breaks. This guide gives a realistic, evidence-based daily schedule for standing desk users plus practical tips for using different desk types and seating so you can alternate effectively and sustainably.
Morning kick-start and the Stand Up Executive Desk
Begin the day with light movement and a short standing session to wake your circulation. If you use a Stand Up Executive Desk (common for managers and heavy multi-monitor setups), start at standing height for 20–30 minutes while you scan emails, set priorities and do quick, low-cognitive tasks. The executive desk’s robust frame supports heavier loads without wobble, so it’s ideal for a stable standing start. Wear comfortable shoes and keep an anti-fatigue mat nearby to reduce foot discomfort.
Structured alternating: the Corner Sit Stand Desk strategy
A reliable approach is to alternate every 30–60 minutes. For people working in corner zones, the Corner Sit Stand Desk works well: use one wing while standing for focused bursts (30–45 minutes), then swivel to the other wing and sit for longer, deeper tasks. The corner configuration helps split visual and tactile activities — for example, stand for quick coding sprint or email triage, then sit to draft a long document.
Mid-morning: use a White Adjustable Desk for light tasks
Mid-morning is a good time for a seated review session. A White Adjustable Desk with clean lines and good light reflection can be pleasant for reading and planning. Lower the desk to seated height and use the next 45–60 minutes for concentrated, seated work. Set a gentle timer so you remember to stand again — many users find 45 minutes sitting followed by 15–20 minutes standing keeps energy stable throughout the day.
Late morning micro-breaks and posture checks with a Wood Standing Desk
Before lunch, take micro-breaks every 20–30 minutes: stand, stretch shoulders, march in place for 60 seconds. If you use a Wood Standing Desk, the warm surface and tactile feel can be inviting for short creative tasks while standing. Keep your monitor at eye level and keyboard at elbow height — small adjustments prevent neck and wrist strain as you alternate.

  5. Lunch reset and the Crank Adjustable Desk option
Use lunch as a true reset: get away from screens, walk for 10–20 minutes, and hydrate. For workplaces with limited power or flexible collaboration spaces, a Crank Adjustable Desk offers a low-tech solution — crank it to standing for a post-lunch check-in if you prefer to stand after eating. Because crank desks require a deliberate action, they can help signal a clear posture change and slow you into a new rhythm.
Early afternoon: productive standing windows and glass top considerations
Schedule a productive standing window in the early afternoon — many people find 60–90 minutes standing after lunch combats the slump. A Standing Desk Glass Top can feel crisp and energizing here, though be mindful of reflection from overhead lights. Pair standing work with active tasks: whiteboarding, voice calls, or short design reviews where movement aids thinking.
A mid-afternoon seated block with an eye on ergonomics
After your standing window, transition to a seated block of 45–60 minutes for demanding, focused tasks. Use a good chair and adjust your screen distance so your neck is neutral. This alternation — standing windows interleaved with seated deep work — is more sustainable than irregular posture shifts and promotes concentration and circulation.
Sustainability and comfort: Bamboo Standing Desk moments
Late afternoon can be a mixed bag of meetings and shallow tasks. A Bamboo Standing Desk provides a warm, sustainable surface that’s pleasant for quick stand-up touchpoints and short collaboration bursts. Keep movement light — calf raises, gentle hip swings and desk push-ups (hands on the top, leaning forward) are effective micro-exercises that fit into brief transitions.
Typing ergonomics: Standing Desk with Keyboard Tray tips
If you touch type a lot, a Standing Desk with Keyboard Tray can be a game changer. It allows your screen to be at eye level while your keyboard stays at elbow height, whether seated or standing. When standing, keep your wrists neutral, shoulders relaxed and elbows at roughly 90 degrees. Retractable trays also keep desktops tidy when you switch to meetings or sketching on the tabletop.
End-of-day routine and Affordable Standing Desk usage
In the final hour, wind down with lower-intensity tasks and prepare tomorrow’s priorities. If you’ve chosen an Affordable Standing Desk for a secondary workspace or home office, you can still apply the same alternation pattern: 30–45 minutes standing, 45 minutes seated, using clocks or apps to remind you. Affordable models often make it easier to have a sit-stand option in more locations, supporting posture variation across environments.
Seating choice matters: the Best Ergonomic Office Chair pairing
Even frequent standers need good seating. Pair your desk routine with the Best Ergonomic Office Chair you can access. When seated, set the chair so your feet are flat, lumbar support matches your lower back curve and armrests allow relaxed shoulders. Quality seating turns seated intervals into restorative breaks rather than micro-stressors.
